“Oh come on Ignis!” Vitam laughed and nudged his brother as they walked along the path to Professor Apple Blossom’s lab. “I would think you would be happy. Considering we’re finally on our way to fighting back. Just as mom and dad would have wanted.” He threw his arm around his brother’s shoulders and Cael, the Axew protested loudly.
“Be careful Vitam. Cael looks like he’s about to fall off your shoulder. Besides, I’m only coming along to see that you don’t get hurt. Mother and father knew if they continued their research they would draw the eyes of organizations like Team Chaos. They made their choice willingly so I don’t think they planned on us taking revenge.”
Vitam’s shoulders slumped and Cael had to grab Vitam’s shirt to stay on his perch. “I just thought. Maybe . . . even if we weren’t fighting for mom and dad we could at least . . .” He trailed off.
Ignis sighed and straightened his brother and Cael chittered gratefully. The Axew had been the brother’s last birthday present for their sixteenth birthday just before their parents were taken. Vitam had always dreamed of being a pokemon trainer, but Ignis was worried. His brother tended to be a little scatter brained and he worried for the creature’s wellbeing. But Vitam had surprised him and he and Cael were inseparable.
“Look Vitam. I think it’s great you want to become a trainer. Who knows maybe you’ll become the best there is.”
Vitam perked up and smiled. “Nah that’s not possible.”
“Don’t sell yourself short. You probably know everything there is to this.”
Vitam laughed. “Maybe. But I won’t be the best cause there’s someone who’s better than me.”
Ignis raised an eyebrow. “Oh?”
“You!” Vitam stopped put his hand on his brother’s chest. “You promised me you would become a trainer with me.”
Ignis’ face relaxed from its usual scowl to a soft smile. “Well I guess if I didn’t become a trainer I’ll have listened to all your lectures for nothing.”
“Right!” Vitam grinned and started walking again. “It’s just over . . . AH! There!” He pointed to a building just down the path. “Professor Apple Blossom’s Lab. The only place to get started.”
The brother’s closed the distance to the lab in no time and soon stepped through the doors into the lobby.
